KUCHING (Aug 22): The Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) Sarawak is now stepping up efforts to educate the public about the dangers of online scams, said its chairman See Chee How.
In stating this, he said an awareness forum will take place to help members of the public protect themselves from becoming victims of cybercrime and ensure they are more aware of this threat.
The forum, he added, aims to provide the latest information and practical guidance in facing the challenges of cybercrime, as well as to provide individual cybersecurity.
“Hosted in Kuching, this forum will take place in both English and Bahasa Melayu.
“The date has not yet been announced because we are waiting for confirmation from the Sarawak Premier first, who expressed that he wanted to attend the programme.
“The forum will involve the Bank Negara, the police, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) as well as all the banks that support this initiative, where any available data and information on the topic will be shared,” he said as cited in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report.
See mentioned this when interviewed by the media after paying a courtesy call on the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday.
Also participating in the meeting was MCPF Sarawak vice-chairman and foundation members, including Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon.
See added the Premier has also given advice and guidance on the best way to implement crime prevention programmes, as a sign of his support for MCPF.
On this regard, he said the State Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPN) will work together with the MCPF to ensure every preventive and security measure is implemented effectively to ensure Sarawak remains a safe and secure place.
