KUCHING (Jan 27): Police have arrested four men consisting of two locals and two foreigners for alleged involvement in a fraudulent call centre operation involving the sale of multiple prepaid SIM cards and online gaming activities on Monday afternoon.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the raid was conducted at a house in Lorong Bukit Bayor, Tabuan Jaya, at 4.30pm.

“Preliminary checks and analysis found that this syndicate operated as a call centre using WhatsApp and the website platform www.sygroup.com to promote the sale of multiple SIM cards (multiplexer) and online games, targeting markets in neighboring countries.

“All individuals arrested are believed to have been working full-time,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property, as well as Section 120B of the same Code for criminal conspiracy.

“For the two foreign nationals, investigations are also being conducted under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for staying in Malaysia without valid passes or permits.

“All suspects were brought before the Kuching Magistrate’s Court on Jan 27 to obtain a remand order, and the application was approved for four days,” he added.
