KUCHING, May 24: As of May 2026, a total of 5,439 students were eligible for the Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES), of which 4,837 accepted, comprising 2,889 existing and 1,948 newly enrolled students, with University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) topping the list at 2,031 students.
According to statistics provided by the Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) in collaboration with Yayasan Sarawak and S Pay Global, the breakdown based on institution is as follows:

Based on the numbers, it has also been shown that all UTS eligible students have accepted the FTES.
Breaking it down by programme, 3,691 students or 76.3 per cent who accepted the scheme are pursuing their studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), followed by Finance and Accounting (1,131 students or 23.4 per cent) and Psychology (15 students or 0.3 per cent).
It was earlier reported that as of the first quarter of 2026 (Jan-Mar), 4,694 students have accepted the scheme.
