Stephanie Munira will donate part of her liver for Maxy’s transplant.

KUCHING (March 4): The fundraiser for little Sarawakian toddler Maxy Perez Davis Mancha to get a lifesaving liver transplant in Shanghai, China has reached its target of RM200,000.

Nadi Permata Malaysia said in an update at 9.45am on Wednesday that the campaign which began on Feb 27 has closed.

“Thank you to everyone who has donated and shared Maxy’s story. May Allah reward all of you for your kindness,” the organisation said on Facebook.

It said as Maxy has received ethical approval to continue treatment and liver transplant surgery, he is scheduled to leave for China after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“At the same time, we are giving Maxy’s family space and time to make all the necessary preparations before leaving, including preparing goods and necessities for the duration of their stay there,” said Nadi Permata Malaysia.

“Thank you again for your unwavering prayers and support. May everything Maxy needs be carried out smoothly and he completely recovers.”

It added that those who still wish to help the family can contact Maxy’s mother Stephanie Munira Sulan Muking (012-2964119) or father Davis Mancha (011-26267716).

Born in Kuching one year and two months ago, Maxy was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia — a devastating disease that silently attacks the bile ducts, slowly shutting down the liver and stealing a child’s chance at a normal life.

Doctors previously performed the Kasai procedure, a complex surgery meant to restore bile flow and buy him time, but his condition continued to worsen — his tiny stomach, once soft and flat, is now swollen, stretched by a liver that has become enlarged, hardened, and increasingly scarred.

As such a liver transplant is his only lifeline.

Stephanie has been confirmed as a compatible donor and will surrender at least 20 per cent of her liver for him.
