KUCHING (Feb 18): This year’s Chinese New Year celebration, marking the Year of the Golden Horse, has been described as more auspicious and promising compared to last year, said prominent businessman Dato Sri Dr Tay Chin Kin.

For Dr Tay, the Golden Horse symbolises prosperity, opportunity, and renewed optimism for both individuals and the business community.

“Of course this year is better. Everybody knows it is the Horse Year. In Chinese culture, compared to other zodiac years, the Horse Year is considered very good.

“Chinese believe that in the Horse Year, you can enjoy more and even businessmen can earn more,” he told The Borneo Post at his Chinese New Year open house.

Dr Tay, who is chairman of the Malaysian Buddhist Association Sarawak Branch, added that the positive sentiment surrounding the Golden Horse extends beyond Malaysia.

“Not only in Malaysia. Even my friends in Thailand and Taiwan say the same thing. Everybody is very happy. This is what the Chinese say about the Golden Horse, it is the best.

“You can ride on it, you can go around and do everything. This horse is very good,” he said.

He also expressed hope that the auspicious year would bring improvements not only in economic prospects but also in peace and harmony.

“I also hope that everywhere will be peaceful. Sarawak is peaceful, but we also hope other countries will be peaceful so that everybody can benefit,” he said.

Dr Tay is widely recognised for his active involvement in religious, community, and charitable work.

He is the founder and chairman of the Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting Society (CHKMUS) Kidney Foundation and has played a key role in numerous philanthropic initiatives across the state.

Before speaking to reporters, he welcomed the visit of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and his wife Datin Amar Enn Ong.

Also present during the visit was Padawan Municipal Council chairman Tan Kai.
