KOTA KINABALU (Dec 30): The state government is committed to addressing congestion issues at Sepanggar Port, said Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick.
The congestion not only affects SBH Kibing New Solar Energy at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) in Sepanggar but also other industry players in Sabah.
“I take this matter seriously and assure that proactive measures will be taken, involving all relevant stakeholders, to ensure effective solutions,” said Ewon who is also the Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport (MINDET).
Ewon stated this when he made a working visit to Kibing to review the company’s operations, performance and expansion progress.
He was briefed on the company’s operational activities, current achievements and future plans.
Kibing is among Sabah’s key industrial investments.
“I am proud of Kibing’s achievements and the initiatives they have implemented, including employing more than 84 per cent local Sabahans, with plans to further increase this percentage in the future,” he said.
Ewon also commended the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes that benefit local communities, in addition to its contribution to the state’s economic development.
According to Ewon, strengthening the logistics ecosystem and port infrastructure is crucial to support industrial sector growth and to attract more high-quality investments into Sabah.
The working visit was attended by representatives from the Sabah Ports Authority, Sabah Ports and Harbours Department, KKIP Sdn Bhd, Sabah Electricity, the Sabah Energy Commission, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) Sabah, the Department of Industrial Development and Research (DIDR), Sabah Railway Department, as well as representatives from state logistics industry associations.
Also present were MINDET Permanent Secretary Datuk Thomas Logijin, Sabah Ports Authority general manager Dollyn Aloysius and representatives from various state government departments and agencies.
