KUCHING, May 21: Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) have reaffirmed their commitment to remain in the unity government until the end of the current administration’s term.

In a TVS news, Minister of Communications Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the matter was conveyed during yesterday’s (May 20) Cabinet meeting.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his appreciation for the commitment shown by all component parties in the unity government, particularly BN, GRS, and GPS, which have pledged to continue their support and remain together until the end of the administration’s term.

“This commitment reflects the priority placed on the interests of the people and the nation, enabling the government to fully focus on addressing economic challenges following developments in West Asia, while ensuring the welfare of the people remains safeguarded,” he said during the weekly press conference of the Ministry of Communications in Putrajaya yesterday.

On speculation regarding an earlier-than-expected state election (PRN), Fahmi, who is also the government spokesperson, declined to elaborate.

“Next week’s Cabinet meeting will be held on Monday, and we will provide further updates during the subsequent press briefing,” he said.

Earlier, Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said the commission is fully prepared to handle any possibility of state legislative assembly (DUN) dissolutions.

He said this involves Melaka, Johor, and Negeri Sembilan, with various proactive measures already implemented to ensure operational readiness for any potential state elections (PRN).

Meanwhile, he stressed that developers and contractors who misuse subsidised cement intended for affordable housing projects will face strict action, including lifetime blacklisting from the construction industry.
He said the government will not tolerate any attempt to profit from the resale of subsidised building materials.

“The government does not want this noble intention to be abused. Any irresponsible and unethical parties will be blacklisted by the ministry permanently.

“I will not only blacklist the companies involved, but also their directors, who will be barred from participating in the industry,” he said, adding that offenders would also be denied Advertising Permit and Developer Licence (APDL). — DayakDaily
