KUCHING, Jan 19: Members of Parliament from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) have pledged to anchor their debates in the Dewan Rakyat on the mandate outlined by their chairman, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, with Sarawak’s interests taking priority.
Sibuti MP and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said the focus would include issues involving Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS).
“As a member of the government, I am unable to take part in the Royal Address debate. However, our GPS colleagues on the government backbenches will debate based on the mandate outlined by the Premier (GPS chairman), especially on matters involving PETRONAS and PETROS. Sarawak’s agenda comes first,” he said, according to a TVS news report.
Commenting on the Royal Address, Lukanisman said the remarks by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, on Malaysia’s formation based on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) were clear and precise.
“For me, His Majesty’s address was concise and straightforward—prevent corruption, uphold the national language without unnecessary debate, and recognise that Malaysia was formed through the Malaysia Agreement 1963,” he said.
During the session, Lukanisman also met with Miri MP and Deputy Minister of Tourism Chiew Choon Man to discuss their respective roles in their new ministries.
He said the discussion touched on flood issues, education allocations, and the Miri Airport upgrading project.
“I also gave assurance that the ICL project at Miri Hospital must proceed before I leave the Ministry of Health (MOH). This project is crucial for providing treatment to heart patients,” he added.
Lukanisman stressed that despite differences in political affiliation, it should not hinder efforts to continue championing the people’s agenda. — DayakDaily
