KUCHING (Jan 18): The Lundu district will see heightened efforts to combat drug-related issues at the grassroots level with the official launch of its Anti-Drugs Squad on Saturday.

The Sarawak Anti-Drugs Squad, in a Facebook post, stated that the launch took place at the Pusat Serbaguna Mahligai Gading in Lundu, joined by 88 volunteers, including youth leaders, community heads, and volunteers.

“This programme represents a proactive step in building a more sustainable community defence through the active involvement of local volunteers,” the post read.

The volunteers also received their appointment letters to the squad and were briefed on strategic directions focusing on prevention in rural areas.

“The participation of the volunteers reflects the strong spirit of volunteerism among Lundu residents in ensuring the district remains safe and prosperous,” the post added.

The establishment of the Lundu branch Anti-Drugs Squad aims to act as information conduit between the community and authorities.

This includes raising public awareness by regularly organising educational and drug-prevention activities within the locality, as well as offering early guidance and assistance to individuals or families facing issues related to substance abuse.

Among those present were the Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier Abang Abdul Aziz Abang Draup and the Sarawak Anti-Drugs Squad secretary Fazari Osman.
