KUCHING (Sept 13): Ho Kok Boon emerged champion of the first ‘The Beautiful Sarawak’ photo contest organised by the Sarawak Commercial Photographic Association (SCPA).
Ho received RM1,500 and a certificate of participation.
Aylwin Lim Khang Sion and Patricia Chung Suan Mei claimed second and third places, receiving RM800 and RM400 respectively along with certificates of participation.
There were also five consolation prizes of RM100 and a certificate each.
Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How, who presented the awards last night, said photography promotes local tourism and culture.
“Photography goes beyond being a hobby. It serves as a powerful medium to tell stories, capture emotions, and document our world,” he said.
He praised the participants for their creative efforts to highlight the distinct geographical features and vibrant local cultures of Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian.
“Each photograph tells a story. These images not only capture stunning landscapes but also reveal hidden emotions and cultural heritage.
“This contest helps to share Sarawak’s unique charm with a global audience, fostering tourism and contributing to the region’s development,” he added.
See also encouraged participants to continue refining their skills and to keep showcasing Sarawak’s beauty through their lenses.
SCPA president Justin Chai said the competition sought to encourage the public to have shops print their cherished photos as it is not always reliable to just store memories on phones, computers, and memory cards.
“This helps prevent the loss of valuable memories,” he said.
Chai said the contest also provides a platform for local photographers to improve their skills.
“The competition aims to discover beautiful new tourist attractions and photo-worthy spots across Sarawak,” Chai said, adding that the high-quality photos would be promoted globally as part of Sarawak’s tourism push.
“A picture is worth a thousand words, capturing the beauty of our state and enticing more tourists to visit. This aligns with our ongoing efforts to promote Sarawak as a premier travel destination.”
