KOTA SAMARAHAN, Nov 29: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has dismissed attempts by “outgoing leaders” to cast doubt on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), stressing that the Unity government remains fully committed to delivering what has been promised to Sabah and Sarawak.
He was responding to remarks by former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, who recently claimed MA63 was “not valid”—a comment critics say could strain relations between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
Saifuddin said the government’s commitment is demonstrated through concrete steps, including appointing Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof to lead Federal–Sabah–Sarawak meetings on MA63 implementation.
“Progress has been made. Judge us by what we have delivered. Our focus is on what remains outstanding and what obstacles must be resolved,” he told reporters after officiating Registry of Societies Malaysia’s (ROS) MADANI Foster Village Project in Kampung Sindang here today.
Taking aim at those making statements he said could undermine regional harmony, Saifuddin urged Malaysians to evaluate the motives of such individuals.
“These are leaders who are already outgoing. They had their prime time. They were in Parliament, they were ministers. With their legal background, they know better.
“There is no reason to spark unnecessary anxiety when the Madani government is working to fulfil what has been agreed. The public can judge leaders who fail to safeguard peace with remarks that bring no benefit,” he added.
On whether action will be taken if police reports are lodged against Zaid, Saifuddin said police will act according to due process.
“We will wait for the report. When a report is filed, we will see which act and which section applies. Until that happens, we will not comment further,” he emphasised. – DayakDaily
