MIRI (Jan 19): The Hope Care Water Project initiated by the Rotary Club of Bintulu Central (RCBC) has facilitated the supply of clean water not just to the residents of Rumah Yusop and Kampung Tubai Baru in Limbang, but also to the Nanga Merit Health Clinic in the area.
Batu Danau assemblyman Datuk Paulus Palu Gumbang hailed the project, sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Malaysia (LDS Charities) with Limbang Health Office as a strategic partner, as being ‘crucial’ in view of clean water being a basic necessity in people’s daily life.
“Although the government continues to implement clean water supply projects, these efforts take time due to the vast areas and the scattered population across the rural regions.
“Through this initiative, residents and facilities in Nanga Merit are now able to enjoy clean water, vital for their daily activities,” he said in officiating at the project’s handover in Limbang on Saturday.
Adding on, Paulus said the state government is currently implementing clean water supply projects in Ukong, Pengkalan Jawa, and the surrounding areas.
However, he said the project under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) would take time due to the construction of several elevated water tanks at several locations.
“Upon overall completion, these facilities will benefit the residents in these areas,” he said.
Meanwhile, RCBC president Linnie Lee said the project reflected club’s long-term commitment to serving rural communities by addressing not only immediate needs, but also strengthening the essential infrastructure meant to support the community’s health and daily life.
“The projects align with RCBC’s theme for the year, ‘United for Good’, which emphasises collaboration among organisations through clear and complementary roles towards a shared objective.
“RCBC hopes this collaborative model could be strengthened further and replicated in other communities, in line with long-term public welfare goals,” she said.
Among those present were Limbang Health officer Dr Norliza Jusoh, as well as LDS Charities representative Elder Roger Walker and his wife Pam Walker.
