KUCHING (Oct 31): Hope Place Kuching is providing food aid to a 56-year-old woman, who is mentally challenged and lives alone in Batu Kawa.

According to the charitable organisation, YT Choo has been suffering from schizophrenia for more than 20 years, and is an outpatient of Sarawak General Hospital and takes medication regularly.

“Back in her younger days, she worked as an administrative clerk, but at the age of 30, everything went downhill; her mental illness became more apparent and even her planned marriage was cancelled.

“She is currently jobless and struggling financially,” it said in a statement today.

Hope Place added that Choo has been dependent on her siblings’ help throughout the years, but recently, their support has been decreasing.

“Currently, Choo’s sister only helps her with paying the utilities and letting her stay in a shoplot that she owns. As for her other expenses, Choo is on her own.

“She used to have a friend to stay with her and looked out for each other, but when her companion went away, she has been alone ever since,” said the non-governmental organisation.

The statement also said that Choo wanted to find a job but no one seems to want to employ her, adding that her only source of income is the RM350 monthly welfare support.

For more information, Hope Place or Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching can be reached on 082-505987 or 013-5672775 during office hours, from 8am daily except on Sundays.
