KUCHING (Dec 27): Hope Place Kuching is providing basic food aid to a 60-year-old man who is recovering from a stroke and living alone in Kampung Seratau, Padawan.

The non-governmental organisation (NGO) said Augustine Vincent has long been estranged from his wife and children and currently has no income or family support.

“He is living by himself, with no income or immediate family,” the NGO said in a statement following a recent visit.

According to Hope Place, although Augustine has regained consciousness and mobility after suffering a stroke, his health remains poor.

He was hospitalised for a month last October after his sister found him unconscious on the floor of his home.

“While Augustine is recovering, doctors have found a blockage in his brain.

“He is on medication but is sometimes unable to attend hospital appointments due to transport issues,” it said.

With no means of transportation, Augustine solely relies on his sister Paula, who is in her 50s, and lives in a different village. Despite this, she visits him as often as possible to provide care and assistance.

Augustine previously worked as a daily-paid construction worker but has no savings or source of income following his illness.

Hope Place said it welcomes donations to continue assisting Augustine and other needy individuals and families.

Donations can be made directly to Hope Place’s Maybank account (511289001160) or via the S Pay Global QR code available on its Facebook page. Receipts will be issued upon request.

For enquiries, contact Hope Place on 082-505987 or 013-5672775.
