KUCHING (March 20): A 14-year-old boy undergoing treatment for stage three brain cancer continues to receive assistance from Hope Place Kuching to support his family’s daily needs.
Muhammad Arif Muhammad Aryan, who lives in Semariang Batu, has been diagnosed with a brain tumour in Dec last year following persistent headaches.
Since then, he has undergone three surgeries and continues to receive chemotherapy and radiotherapy on a monthly basis.
Hope Place said the family has been provided with regular food assistance as well as festive clothing and essential items in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
The non-governmental organisation said the contributions, which include food items, hampers and daily necessities, were made possible through public donations.
According to Ariff’s mother, Ida, 46, the medical condition has placed considerable financial strain on the family, as most of their savings have been utilised for treatment-related expenses.
She said Arif’s condition also limits his ability to engage in physically demanding activities, as he frequently experiences fatigue and shortness of breath.
Despite undergoing continuous treatment, Arif remains committed to his studies, which he currently follows from home.
Ida, who previously worked as a cleaner, has since stopped working to care for her son full-time, while assistance from family members helps with transportation for hospital visits.
The family also receives Rm400 monthly aid from the state Social Welfare Department, while the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) has been providing additional support since January.
Hope Place said continued public support is important in helping to ease the family’s financial burden and ensure the patient can complete his treatment.
