KUCHING (Oct 15): Hope Place Kuching is supporting a 10-year-old girl by providing children’s diapers and special milk supplements.

According to the non-governmental organisation (NGO), the girl has had diplegic cerebral palsy since she was one year old, and is unable to talk or walk.

“Little Mira, her parents and her two elder siblings, aged 12 and 15, live in Kampung Tupong.

“She is not bedridden; she uses a walker with wheels to balance her body.

“At home, Mira is at ease, crawling here and there. She is on tube-feeding, unable to consume any solid food,” said Hope Place in a press release yesterday.

According to the NGO, Mira also has stenosis, the narrowing of the respiratory tract, and uses an inhaler whenever she has difficulty breathing.

“The girl does look underweight for her age.

“Her father, Saufie, 39, works as a daily-paid painter, earning about RM70 per day. Most days, he is absent from work as he needs to bring Mira in and out of the hospital.

“Mira’s mother, Mawar, 33, not only takes care of her and the household chores, but also runs a small beverage stall outside her home, selling ‘ABC’ and ‘cendol’ to generate more income.

“On a good day, Mawar can earn about RM20 to RM30. With two more school-going children to feed, the family is barely scraping by with their monthly income,” said Hope Place.

It is informed that Mira is receiving the monthly welfare aid of RM500, as well as some support from Tabung Baitumal Sarawak for medical equipment.

The NGO welcomes all donations and will issue receipt upon request. People can donate directly to Hope Place Maybank’s account 511289001160, or visit its Facebook page for the S Pay Global QR code.
