KUCHING, March 19: The Sarawak government will roll out more affordable housing projects in stages across the State, ensuring wider access to safe, comfortable, and well-planned homes.

In his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg reaffirmed that housing remains a key priority, with sustained efforts to support low- and middle-income communities.

“God willing, more housing projects of this kind are being planned and will be implemented in phases throughout Sarawak,” he said.

Between 2021 and 2025, Abang Johari highlighted that a total of 924 housing units have been completed under various programmes, including 770 units under Rumah Spektra Permata (RSP) and 154 units under Projek Rakyat (PR), covering urban, suburban, and rural areas.

In the Kuching Division, completed projects include the RSP Kampong Extension Programme at Kampung Pasir Panjang, Pasir Pandak/Pasir Salak; Affordable Housing (RMM) at Darul Hana; RSP Lundu; RSP Sematan; and RSP SPK Tebakang Melayu.

In the Betong Division, completed projects include the RSP Kampong Extension at Kampung Spaoh and RSP SPK Maludam Phase 1, while the Sarikei Division has completed RSP SPK Susur Jambu. In the Sibu Division, RSP Kemuyang has been finished.

Projects in the Mukah Division include RSP SPK Hilir Dalat and RSP SPK Balingian. In Miri, RSP Majelin and Rumah Spektra Permata Permyjaya III have been completed, while Limbang saw the completion of the Affordable Housing (RMM) project in Ranggau.

Under Projek Rakyat (PR), 154 units have been completed across key areas. In Kuching, RSP SPK Santubong was completed; in Betong, RSP SPK Kampung Hulu Kabong; and in Mukah, RSP Tian Matu and RSP Igan have been delivered to meet local housing needs.

Abang Johari stressed that these developments extend beyond mere physical structures, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing quality of life and social stability.

“A home is not merely a place of shelter; it is the foundation of a stable family, a harmonious environment, and a secure future for the next generation,” he said.

He added that the government will continue to prioritise housing as part of its broader agenda to uplift the well-being of the people. — DayakDaily
