KUCHING, Nov 29: The hydrogen-powered catamaran Puteri Dalat, capable of operating for over 10 hours and covering up to 150 kilometres, was unveiled at CENTEXS Dalat today, marking a milestone in Sarawak’s adoption of advanced marine technology.

Developed by Solarvest in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), the two-passenger catamaran features green hydrogen fuel cells, energy storage batteries, and composite fibreglass-reinforced polymer materials.

Its endurance and long-range capabilities make it ideal for navigation along the Dalat River and demonstrate the practical potential of sustainable marine transport.

“This catamaran shows how emerging technologies can be applied in real-world marine transport while serving as a learning platform for Sarawak’s next generation of engineers and technicians,” Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said during his speech at the CENTEXS Dalat launch today.

He added that the CENTEXS Dalat testbed initiative allows students and technicians to gain hands-on experience with fuel cell systems, energy storage solutions, and composite materials, equipping youth with skills relevant to the State’s growing green technology sector.

“The launch of Puteri Dalat reflects Sarawak’s commitment to linking technical education with innovation in renewable energy and small-scale marine transport, providing sustainable solutions and practical training for future professionals,” he said. — DayakDaily
