KUCHING (April 11): With the Sarawak state election drawing closer, Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki has called on grassroots leaders and the people to remain united and prepared, stressing that the constituency must deliver a strong mandate to reflect continued confidence in its leadership.

Speaking at the DUN N8 Satok Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri at the Sarawak Islamic Complex here on Friday, he noted that although the election date has yet to be fixed, it could be called at any time as the current State Legislative Assembly (DUN) term is nearing its end.

“Now that we are approaching the end of the term, with only about nine months remaining, we must reflect on whether we have successfully carried out the trust and responsibilities entrusted to us,” he said.

Reflecting on developments in Satok, the Deputy Minister of Utility (Sarawak Energy Berhad and Petros) expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved.

“I am pleased to say that we have carried out our responsibilities as best as we could. We have delivered extensively, both in infrastructure and human capital development,” he said.

“If we were to list them all, there are more than 200 projects that we have implemented and allocated funding for.”

Among the key developments highlighted were the refurbishment of the hall at SK Merpati Jepang, which is set to be officially opened soon, as well as the upcoming completion of a digital innovation hub at Jalan Kulas.

Reaffirming Satok’s status as a stronghold of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Ibrahim stressed the importance of securing a decisive victory in the coming election.

“We must defend Satok and win big to send a clear signal that our people remain united and live in harmony,” he said.

He attributed Sarawak’s continued stability to strong leadership and a clear development direction, noting that unity among its people remains a key strength.

“We are not seasonal workers. We serve all year round. Ultimately, whoever is chosen as the candidate, we must give our full and unwavering support,” he added.

During the event, about 1,000 guests, comprising representatives from divisions, branches, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and grassroots leaders, attended the Hari Raya gathering in a warm and festive atmosphere.

Among those present was Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier Abdul Samat Gany.
