The women engineers who attend the annual general meeting.
KOTA KINABALU (March 8): The Women Engineers (WE) Section of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sabah Branch concluded its 2024–2026 term at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Saturday at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), with members electing a new committee to lead the section for the 2026–2028 term.
The AGM was attended by IEM Sabah Branch Chairman Datuk Ir. Ts. Mohd Yaakob Hj. Jaafar, Honorary Treasurer Ir. Wong Chen Jack, and Chairman of the Young Engineers Section TY Lee, together with women engineers from various professional backgrounds across Sabah.
During the meeting, the outgoing secretary presented its report highlighting the section’s activities and achievements over the past two years. Throughout the 2024–2026 term, WE Section organised a variety of programmes focusing on technical engagement, social and community outreach, as well as sports and recreational activities, aimed at strengthening professional development and fostering closer engagement among members.
Among the notable activities were technical talks and visits, providing members with opportunities to gain practical insights and exchange knowledge within the engineering community.
Beyond technical programmes, WE Section also carried out several social and community initiatives, including the Sungkai Gathering with Orphans, a CSR Beach Cleaning Programme at Tanjung Aru Beach in collaboration with Trash Hero, as well as humanitarian relief initiatives supporting communities affected by floods, landslides, and fire incidents.

WE also actively participated in sports and recreational activities, including involvement in organizing the 15th Inter-Professional Bodies Games 2025 (Futsal).
The Committee of the Women Engineers Section also contributed to major IEM Sabah events, including the IEM Sabah 50th Golden Jubilee Dinner and the 42nd Conference of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (CAFEO 42), supporting the organising committee in areas such as sponsorship coordination, protocol management, and event logistics.
Following the completion of its term, the 2024–2026 committee was formally dissolved. A new committee was subsequently elected to lead the section for the 2026–2028 term under the leadership of Lydia Lisa Edward, Head Regional Sales Sabah, TM Global.
The AGM concluded with members reaffirming their commitment to continue strengthening the role of women in engineering and supporting professional growth within the engineering community in Sabah.
