KUCHING (Nov 28): The Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (Ilam) Sarawak Chapter has deepened its engagement with local authorities through the Technical Landscape Seminar and Industry Sharing Session with Sarawak Local Authorities 2025.
Organised in partnership with the State Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG), the seminar gathered representatives from 28 local authorities, alongside ministry officers and council officials.
ILAM Sarawak said the event, held at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex media room, marked one of the most extensive collaborations between Ilam, government agencies and the landscape industry to date.
The seminar was officiated by Durie Austine Tinggie, head of the Housing, Technical and Home Buyers’ Claims Tribunal Division, representing MPHLG.
Also present was MPHLG landscape architect LAr. Job Nelson Nyangau, while Ilam Malaysia was represented by council member LAr. Meor Saadon Sofian Mior Razali.
In his address, Saadon highlighted the vital role of landscape architecture in shaping climate-ready, resilient and people-centred urban environments.
The programme featured technical presentations by industry professionals including LAr. Catherine Lau Lee Sieng, LAr. James Sim Kwang Seng and Chee Kok Wai, along with representatives from Shamrock Arena (M) Sdn Bhd and Alpha Titan Sdn Bhd.
Topics covered included sustainable landscape practices, amenity tree management, green infrastructure, playground safety and innovations in sports-turf technology.
The seminar concluded with a panel dialogue involving MPHLG, Ilam Sarawak and industry partners, discussing opportunities for stronger policy alignment and more effective on-ground implementation.
Ilam Sarawak expressed appreciation to the ministry, speakers, collaborators, and participants for their support.
The chapter said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to enhancing landscape quality, safety and sustainability across Sarawak, contributing to greener, healthier and more liveable communities.
