KOTA BELUD (Feb 21): Sabah Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick has assured swift assistance to families displaced by a devastating fire in Kampung Melangkap Kapa, where ten houses were completely destroyed and several others damaged.
He said his service centre would continue coordinating with relevant agencies to channel essential supplies to those at the Temporary Relief Centres (PPS), including logistical support for relocation where necessary.
“I am saddened by this incident and extend my sympathy to all families affected. I hope they remain strong as we work together to ensure the necessary assistance reaches them,” he said during a visit to the families today.
During his visit, the Kadamaian assemblyman and State Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport (Mindet) Minister, met with the affected families and handed over contributions via the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).
The Kota Belud district office has declared the fire a disaster, enabling affected families to be relocated to the PPS in Melangkap.
Beyond the fire victims, Ewon also visited applicants under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) housing assistance programme in Kampung Tambatuon, Kampung Melangkap Tiong, Kampung Melangkap Baru, Kampung Purak Ogis, and Kampung Bahab.
“Even when I am away on official duties, I have instructed my team to respond promptly to disasters like this to ensure victims receive timely help,” he said.
Also present during the visit were Kota Belud District Officer Peter Jiton and staff from the Kadamaian community development unit.
