ADVERTISE HERE
KUCHING: Recipients of minor rural project (MRP) grants must immediately deposit their cheques upon receiving them to avoid any inconveniences, said Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
Speaking at a MRP cheque presentation in Tapah near Kuching recently, the Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development reminded recipients that the cheque must be deposited before its validity period ends.
“Make sure to save the money (after depositing or cashing the cheque) in the bank. This is because there have been cases where the recipient did not know where they kept the cheque. Therefore, I urge that after this ceremony, you go straight to the bank,” said the Tarat assemblyman according to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report.
He also reminded the recipients to prepare a statement of the fund’s expenditure every year for government audit purposes.
He said accurate financial reports are important to ensure government funds are not misused.
“We do not want any misuse to occur because if that happens, the district officer, recipient and I may be subject to action by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC),” he said.
The event saw 66 recipients comprising clubs and association in the Tarat constituency receive MRP cheques totalling RM850,000.
