KUCHING (March 5): The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) detained 37 foreign nationals during an enforcement operation carried out in Demak and Lundu from March 3 to 4.

In a statement, JIM Sarawak said the operation, conducted by its Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division, involved 33 immigration officers and targeted several locations.

“Among the premises raided were factories suspected of employing foreign workers without valid passes or work permits, as well as food and beverage premises in the Demak area believed to have misused social visit passes.

“At night, the operation continued with raids on workers’ housing at durian and oil palm plantations in Rambungan, Lundu.

“The remote location of the settlements, coupled with hilly and rocky access routes, made the operation more challenging,” the statement read.

JIM Sarawak said all detained foreign nationals were taken to the Immigration Office for further action in accordance with the relevant immigration laws.

The department reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying enforcement operations to curb the misuse of passes and the employment of foreign nationals without valid authorisation.
