KUCHING (Oct 31): The differences among communities is something to be celebrated in order to build a stronger state and country, said the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS).
In a Deepavali message today, ACS chairman The Right Rev Datuk Danald Jute said the Festival of Lights is an opportune time for all to come together.
“On the auspicious occasion of Deepavali, the Christian community takes delight in extending our warmest wishes to all Hindu, Sikh, and Jain communities, as you mark and celebrate this festival of the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness,” said Danald, who is Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei.
He called on everyone to continue to build and strengthen a harmonious and peaceful coexistence by sowing and nurturing the seeds of harmony, understanding, and respect.
“While we cannot deny our differences, we must acknowledge that we have more in common than what separates us.
“Our differences then are a cause for celebration and not division. This is how we can build a better, stronger, and more united Sarawak and Malaysia,” he added.
