KUCHING (April 1): Stretches on Jalan Mendu, Jalan Batu Lintang, and nearby areas including Kenyalang Food Centre have been affected by an unscheduled water supply interruption.
In a notice, Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd (Southern Region) said the interruption is caused by a leak involving a 150mm SI (spun iron) main at Jalan Mendu.
It estimated that the works would continue until 4pm.
“Consumers in these areas may experience low water pressure or no water supply during the repair period,” said Sarawak Water.
“Road users are advised to exercise caution and comply with all traffic management and safety regulations during the repair works.”
It added that water tanker services will be mobilised if required.
Separately, Kuching South mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said efforts are being intensified to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible after a burst pipe caused the disruption.
Wee visited the affected areas accompanied by councillors Albert Tay and Eric Tay after being alerted by hawkers.
He said water tankers were requested from Sarawak Water to allow hawkers at the Kenyalang Food Centre to continue operating while repair works are carried out.
“The livelihood of our hawkers is important. We must ensure that basic services like water supply are restored quickly, or alternative solutions are provided so that businesses can continue as usual,” he said in a statement.
Wee added that Kuching South City Council will continue to work closely with Sarawak Water to ensure repairs are completed swiftly and efficiently.
