KUALA LUMPUR, May 26: The National Economic Action Council (MTEN) has agreed to expand support for Malaysia’s agri-commodity sector, which includes allowing individual traders to register as companies to access the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) as cost pressures mount amid the global conflicts.

According to a news report by TVS, Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the move, which aims to ease rising operational costs across the sector, is to be implemented through a collaboration between the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK) and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

“Once they are registered as corporate entities, they will be eligible to receive incentives under the SKDS programme, including access to fleet cards based on their eligibility.

“The government’s priority in this matter is clear—to ensure adequate supply of essential goods, manage price pressures, and safeguard the sustainability of industry operations,” he said during a special press briefing on the Global Supply Crisis today.

At the same time, Akmal Nasrullah said any policy intervention would be implemented carefully, in a targeted manner and based on data to ensure assistance reaches those who genuinely need it.

“Assistance must reach affected parties at the right time and in the most effective form,” he said. — DayakDaily
