LUBOK ANTU, May 15: Continuous rainfall since yesterday (May 14) has caused water levels along Jalan Nanga Kumpang to rise to 0.51 metres, rendering the road impassable for all types of vehicles.
Lubok Antu District Civil Defence officer Desem Samuel said monitoring by personnel from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Lubok Antu at about 9.20am today found floodwaters had overflowed onto the road surface, with strong currents flowing across the affected stretch.
He said the situation poses significant safety risks to road users, particularly those driving light and heavy vehicles through the area.
“Besides the continuous rain, a blocked drainage system in the area has also been identified as a contributing factor to the rising water level,” he said as per report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
He advised the public to use Jalan Sayat as an alternative route to Engkilili or Lubok Antu until conditions improve.
Desem added that APM Lubok Antu will continue to carry out regular monitoring to ensure the safety of road users.
He also reminded the public to remain vigilant and to heed updates from the authorities, while avoiding the risk of driving through flooded areas.
For emergencies or assistance, the public may contact the emergency hotline 999 or the APM Lubok Antu District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) at 083-584639. — DayakDaily
