KUCHING: Javelin thrower Jamal Nasir Zulkiplis, 43, was the toast of the Sarawak contingent at the Para Malaysian Games (Sukma XXI) Sarawak 2024, clinching a gold medal in the F55 category.
In an impressive performance at Sarawak Stadium on Wednesday (Sept 25), Jamal’s best throw of 21.09 metres not only secured him the gold but also shattered the previous Para Sukma record of 20.97 metres, set by Melaka’s Mohd Shaari Mohd Jaafar two years ago.
“I am very excited to win the gold and even happier to break the tournament record (Para Sukma).
“This success is for all Sarawakians and my beloved family,” he said.
Despite facing stiff competition from athletes across the country, Jamal’s hard work and determination paid off.
“I wasn’t expecting to cause an upset in this event, but the success of winning the gold and setting a new record is the result of my dedicated training,” he added.
Jamal is set to compete again in the discus throw event, also in the F55 category. With his sights set on another victory, he is determined to add a second gold to his collection.
“I’ll give my best effort and aim for another record-breaking performance in the discus event,” he said confidently.
His two closest rivals in the event were Selangor’s Muhammad Amirul Alif Abdul Raof, who took silver with a throw of 19.33 metres, and Sabah’s Samri Butak, who claimed bronze with 19.04 metres.
As Jamal prepares for his next challenge, all eyes will be on him to see if he can once again make history.
