TENOM (Jan 6): Flood victims in Tenom District will receive the assistance they require, said Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Datuk Jamawi Jaafar.
The Melalap assemblyman said this during a late-night visit to temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in the district on Monday.
He visited the PPS at Kampung Ponontomon Community Cultural Hall, Kampung Pantongan Saga Community Cultural Hall, and the Kampung Mandalom Lama Community Cultural Hall.
The three evacuation centres were open at 3pm the previous day by the Tenom District Disaster Management Committee chaired by Tenom District Officer Alexander Liew.
“Initial assistance has already been provided by the Tenom Welfare Department, the Tenom Parliamentary Office, the Tenom District Office, the Melalap State Constituency Service Centre, as well as other government agencies,” said Jamawi.
He added that the distribution of food baskets and drinking water to all flood victims would continue.
“I deeply sympathise with all those affected by the floods. I hope everyone remains strong in facing this ordeal. I will do my utmost to provide assistance where needed,” he said.
