KUCHING, Apr 28: Physical progress on the Jalan Tellian Bypass has now reached 52.13 per cent—an encouraging indicator that the road project could be completed earlier than its original targeted date of this coming Dec 9.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the smooth execution of on-site work—including technical coordination, logistics, and construction scheduling—has contributed to the project’s performance.

He said that the systematic arrangement of work has enabled each phase of construction to be carried out as planned, creating the possibility for the project to be completed earlier than expected.

“This reflects a high level of readiness among all parties involved, including contractors and implementing agencies,” he said during a working visit to the project site today.

Meanwhile, Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said that the project was approved in 2017 and underwent several phases of coordination before it could be fully implemented.

“The planning also involves integrating road networks, including a proposed additional route connecting village areas to the Coastal Highway via Jalan Kelapa Baru,” he said.

At the same time, Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine said the project’s progress is a reflection of the Sarawak government’s commitment to ensuring that all aspects of implementation, including safety and traffic efficiency, are prioritised.

He added that the construction of the bypass would help in reducing reliance on village roads previously used by heavy vehicles such as industrial and palm oil lorries. — DayakDaily
