ADVERTISE HERE

AADK handout mugshot of the job applicant tested positive for ketum.
SIBU (March 12): A 25-year-old man attending a job interview under the Sarawak State Public Service Commission (SPANS) here recently tested positive for ketum during a urine screening by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Sibu.
AADK Sibu said the test, conducted under the amended Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983, reflects the agency’s shift from solely punitive measures to early intervention.
It added that individuals detected using substances like ketum are now assessed and channelled into appropriate treatment and rehabilitation programmes.
“The amendments allow intervention not just for drug dependents but also for those abusing prohibited substances, enabling early treatment before conditions worsen,” AADK Sibu said in a statement.
It said the approach prioritises rehabilitation, especially for first-time offenders or early-stage users, offering recovery through systematic programmes rather than punishment.
AADK Sibu reminded the public, particularly youths to avoid substance misuse, highlighting the risks to health, employment, and family life.
Those needing counselling or wishing to report drug activity can contact the AADK hotline on 1-800-22-2235 or via WhatsApp on 019-626 2233.
