MIRI (March 17): The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak has warned the public against a fake driving licence programme circulating on social media, saying the scheme is entirely fabricated and constitutes illegal use of its emblem and officers’ photos.
JPJ Sarawak has lodged reports with the police and the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over the scam.
“There is no shortcut when it comes to obtaining a driving licence in Malaysia. All applicants must complete training at a registered driving institute, and pass both theoretical and practical examinations as required by law.
“Do not fall victim to suspicious offers on social media that promise licence approval without sitting for the tests, as such schemes are not only illegal, but can also expose victims to financial fraud by irresponsible parties,” JPJ Sarawak said in a Facebook post.
The department urged members of the public who encounter such accounts to report them immediately to the relevant social media platforms or authorities so that swift action can be taken.
“We remain committed to safeguarding the integrity of the national driving-licensing system in the interest of road safety for all users,” the department added.
