JULAU (Jan 28): The Julau District Police Headquarters (IPD Julau) recorded a 7.14 per cent drop in its crime index, with total cases falling from 28 in 2024 to 26 in 2025.
Julau police chief Alif Haiqal Ramesh Abdullah said the decline was driven by fewer theft cases and incidents involving injury with dangerous weapons, thanks to continuous enforcement operations and strong cooperation between the police and the community.
“This achievement reflects the commitment of our officers and the consistent police presence on the ground to ensure public safety and well-being,” he said during the district police monthly assembly here.
Property crimes also fell, with 19 cases reported in 2025 compared with 21 in 2024, a reduction of 10.53 per cent, while violent crime remained unchanged at seven cases in both years.
However, Alif noted a significant increase in narcotics-related offences, with 29 positive urine cases recorded in 2025, up from 16 in 2024 — an 81.25 per cent rise. Most involved methamphetamine, or syabu.
“On Dec 11, 2025, IPD Julau successfully arrested two suspects believed to be drug distributors in Pakan, with the seizure of 17.28 grams of syabu worth RM1,500, following Ops Tapis Khas and integrated operations,” he said.
He added that the arrest marked IPD Julau’s first successful crackdown on drug distribution activities, highlighting the effectiveness of intelligence-led and integrated enforcement operations.
In terms of prosecution, he said 12 out of 16 cases investigated in 2024 were charged and resulted in convictions.
In 2025, 23 out of 32 cases were successfully prosecuted, with 29 cases involving positive syabu urine tests.
He stressed that IPD Julau would continue to intensify patrols, enforcement operations and community engagement efforts to curb drug abuse and crime, while maintaining professionalism to ensure public confidence in the police force.
