MIRI (Oct 12): Efforts to upgrade facilities in villages as well as conduct youth development programmes in rural areas have been implemented through two Kampung Angkat Madani programmes in Kampung Long Latei and Kampung Long Suling in Ulu Baram.

The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) in a statement yesterday said a number of important projects have been implemented since the programme began in August this year.

“The projects implemented include the installation of 60 units of solar-powered street lights in Kampung Long Latei (30 units) and Kampung Long Suling (30 units), as well as the construction of roofs over the villages’ water supply tanks, meant to control the water temperature and extend the tanks’ lifespan, especially during hot weather.

“Additionally, built in both villages were new incinerators meant to help the residents dispose of garbage and upcycle the burnt waste into fertiliser,” it said.

It added that other projects implemented were the construction of roofs for 118 longhouses, repair works for roads, an upgrading of a futsal court, and the building of a multi-purpose court, which is expected to be completed by year end.

Meanwhile, for educational programmes, three series of youth development training and courses were also carried out, aimed to equip the youth with various skills for future economic opportunities.

Approximately 150 youths from villages in the Telang Usan constituency participated in each series, held at Kampung Long Latei.

The courses were ‘Basic Recreation and Eco Host’, which took place from Aug 16 to 18; ‘Food Safety and Security’ (Sept 5 to 7); and ‘Handicrafts Making and Diesel Car Maintenance’ (Sept 19 to 21).

The Kampung Angkat Madani programme is expected to have a lasting positive impact on village folk, providing them with better facilities and enhancing economic opportunities that align with the Madani government’s goals.

Also present to monitor the implemented projects was KBS secretary-general Dr Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu.
