KAPIT (Sept 26): Koperasi Sungai Kapit Berhad (KSKB) has been unable to commence the proposed portable container system (PCS)-based petrol station as the promised federal funds never materialised, said its chairman James Minggu.

Expressing disappointment with the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives for failing to deliver the promised RM100,000 allocation, he said it has been 11 months since the project was launched by minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.

“The minister announced the grant when he officiated the earth-breaking ceremony for the PCS petrol station at KM4 Jalan Melekun in early November last year.

“Since then, I have written several letters to the ministry requesting the funds promised by the minister but I have yet to receive any reply,” he told The Borneo Post.

Expressing frustration, James explained that KSKB was in desperate need of the funds to kick off the project.

“The minister had publicly announced the allocation but until now, there is no sign of it. This kind of thing can erode the trust of the people in the Madani government,” he added.

Based on a news report last year, Ewon said the proposed PCS petrol station here would be the second to be operated by a cooperative in Sarawak, after the one in the Bau-Lundu area run by Koperasi Permodalan Salcra Sarawak Berhad.
