KUCHING, Mar 6: Upon completion, the Nanga Tulie ferry will be able to carry up to 24 vehicles at one time, making river crossings safer, more orderly, and more efficient for residents throughout the Kapit Division.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of the ferry project today, Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi added that the ferry service will only charge a fare of RM1 for each trip—ensuring that the facility helps reduce the daily cost of living for rural communities, in line with the principle that no citizen should be left behind in the nation’s development.

“As a son of Kapit who has represented this area since 1999, I feel very close to and deeply concerned about every development that takes place here. Therefore, I am very pleased to be with all of you today to witness the beginning of a project that has long been awaited by the local community.

“Nanga Tulie is an important route linking communities along the banks of Batang Rajang, and the implementation of this ferry project is expected to bring significant benefits to residents, particularly in terms of mobility, economic activity, and social development.

“It will also help stimulate local economic activities and facilitate the transportation of goods, agricultural produce, and daily necessities,” he said in his text speech made available to DayakDaily.

Nanta, who is also the Minister of Works, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that the development of basic infrastructure in rural areas, particularly in Sarawak, continues to be prioritised.

In addition to the ferry project, he added that several other road and bridge projects are also being planned or implemented in Kapit Division to strengthen both land and water transport networks.

“I hope that residents will extend their assistance and full cooperation to the contractor and the Kapit Public Works Department (JKR) throughout the implementation of this project. The support and spirit of the community are very important so that this project can be carried out smoothly for the benefit of all.

“This is clear proof that the government always stands with the people, ensuring that the facilities built are not merely impressive on paper but truly help ease the daily burdens of rural communities,” he said.
