KUCHING (Feb 6): Any attempt to divide and provoke Sarawak through negative narratives on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) will only strengthen the state’s leadership and unite its people, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women’s Wing leaders.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali said the state government remained confident under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Speaking after the PBB Women’s Supreme Council meeting for the 2025–2028 session at the party headquarters, she said Sarawak had been handling MA63 matters correctly.

“As I have voiced before, we are confident in the wisdom and leadership of our Premier, especially in handling and fighting for Sarawak’s rights,” said Sharifah Hasidah, who is also PBB Women’s Wing deputy chief.

She was responding to a recent segment on Berita 757 featuring an unidentified political analyst claiming that Sabah had handled MA63 more prudently than Sarawak and describing Sarawak as arrogant.

Sharifah Hasidah pointed to increased state funds as tangible outcomes of the MA63 struggle.

“Under the leadership of the Premier, we have achieved many successes. As a result of the MA63 struggle, Sarawak’s state funds have increased.

“Previously our funds were RM5 billion or RM6 billion, now it has reached tens of billions,” she said, adding that these results justified the government’s efforts to reclaim and defend Sarawak’s rights.

“This is all the result of the success we have achieved with the Premier. I am confident that we fully support that the Premier knows and is wise in arranging strategies to defend Sarawak’s rights.”.

State Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, PBB Women’s Wing chief, described the segment’s comments as an attempt to sow division between Sabah and Sarawak.

“That is indeed their way — to divide and provoke. But there is wisdom in it. It makes us determined to strengthen our support towards the leadership and makes the people of Sarawak more united,” she said.

Fatimah added that criticisms directed at the Premier or the state would instead reinforce solidarity among party members and the wider public.

“We don’t want the Premier to walk alone, we walk as a team for Sarawak, Sarawak first,” she said.

She further emphasised that such negative narratives would strengthen collective resolve.

“So we move as a team. Anok ajak, sikda hal (Keep mocking, no problem). It makes us walk stronger. It will make us more united and more spirited.

“We will work together as a team to show that we are united. We emphasise unity, development, peace and harmony for Sarawak first,” she said.
