SIBU: Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK) play a vital role in overseeing local development projects, ensuring they meet specified guidelines and remain free from irregularities, according to Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.
Tiang noted that KMKK and Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) serve as the “eyes and ears” of the government, upholding fairness and transparency in community development.
“As grassroots leaders, you are guardians of integrity within your communities,” he said. “I urge KMKK to report any non-compliance or delays in projects so that we can take appropriate action.”
Tiang, also the Pelawan assemblyman, made these remarks at the Jelajah Integriti Programme Series 16 Bil 7/2024 for the Sibu District in the Pelawan constituency, here on Thursday (Oct 31).
He reiterated that in line with Sarawak’s vision of becoming a developed state by 2030, the government—through the Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (UNIONS)—is dedicated to fostering a culture of integrity.
“We need strong cooperation from all parties to uphold integrity as we strive to make Sarawak one of the wealthiest and most developed states in Malaysia,” he added.
“As Deputy Minister responsible for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, it is my duty to promote integrity values among KMKK, encouraging them to be role models for their communities.”
Also present at the event were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya; and Sibu Resident Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman.
