KUCHING (March 26): The Kota Samarahan National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Squad vice president has been fined RM1,500 in default two months’ jail by the Magistrates’ Court here for abusing ketamine.
Senior Assistant Registrar Mohammad Fauzi Acho imposed the fine on Nur Aiman Al-Hakim Yushri, 26, after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.
He was also ordered to undergo two years of supervision.
The Section provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years upon conviction along with mandatory supervision.
Based on the facts of the case, Nur Aiman was arrested and an initial urine test at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters found him to be positive for ketamine at around 3.04am on Jan 1.
A medical report later confirmed the presence of ketamine, a substance listed under the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
During mitigation, Nur Aiman claimed he believed he was smoking a regular cigarette and was unaware it contained drugs, adding that he had been influenced by a friend.
Mohammad Fauzi, however, reprimanded him for his actions, noting that he held an important position in society and should have known better, while also reminding him to avoid bad company.
Deputy public prosecutor Chuah Kai Sheng handled the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.
