KUCHING, Apr 24: What began as a banking issue quickly turned into a pressing livelihood crisis for a disabled father of four in the Stampin Resettlement Scheme—until help arrived.

In a press release, the man is the sole caregiver to his four underage children, while his wife is unemployed. The family survives entirely on the monthly welfare aid of RM450. But recently, that lifeline was abruptly cut off when his bank account was deactivated, leaving the household in financial distress.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, who heard about the man’s troubles, extended his assistance and personally accompanied the individual to the bank to assist in reactivating his bank account, which is crucial for the receipt of his welfare aid.

“The resident had earlier discovered that his account had been closed due to issues involving inactive accounts in two other banks, which were allegedly flagged for possible mule account activity.

“As a result, his welfare payments could not be credited, placing severe financial strain on the family, especially with four young children to care for and no alternative source of income,” said the press release.

For Yap, this effort goes beyond resolving an administrative issue as it is about protecting the well-being of a struggling family and ensuring that the children are not deprived of essential support due to circumstances beyond their control.

This hands-on assistance reflects his continued commitment to serving the people of Kota Sentosa, especially vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities and low-income families, ensuring that no one is left behind. — DayakDaily
