KUCHING (Feb 22): Kota Sentosa will see the rollout of 28 new development projects this year, in line with the state government’s push to make 2026 an “implementation year”, said its assemblyman Wilfred Yap.
He said the project execution aligns with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s development agenda, which emphasizes delivery and tangible results for the people.
“We have another 28 projects coming up, and I am pleased to announce that I have secured an additional RM5 million allocation under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP),” he said.
He added that the additional projects would be submitted shortly for Kota Sentosa and the Stampin Resettlement Scheme.
He was speaking to reporters after attending the Kai Kung ceremony at the Kota Sentosa Service Centre here yesterday.
Yap also confirmed that Phase One of the Stampin Resettlement Scheme’s flood mitigation project is expected to commence in the first quarter of the year.
“That is what I have been made to understand by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID). Nevertheless, I will continue to follow up closely to ensure these projects are implemented as planned,” he said.
He noted that several projects to upgrade community halls and schools in the constituency have already entered Phase One, while others have progressed into Phase Two.
“I hope to be able to start my Phase Three soon, as many of these involve dilapidated infrastructure. Some are already halfway towards full completion,” he said.
On another note, Yap said there had been no flooding reported in his constituency, particularly in the 7th Mile area, despite heavy rainfall since last November.
He attributed this to the state government’s proactive efforts and the successful implementation of development and mitigation projects in Kota Sentosa.
The event earlier marked the resumption of operations at the Kota Sentosa Service Centre following the Chinese New Year holidays, symbolising a renewed commitment to effective service delivery.
“The spirit of Kai Kung reminds us that prosperity is built through hard work, discipline and teamwork,” he said.
“The people are not interested in rhetoric. What they expect from us is delivery,” he added.
The ceremony was officiated by deputy premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and attended by Padawan Municipal Council chairman Tan Kai, along with other distinguished guests.
