KUCHING (Nov 28): Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has launched ‘Pasar PATUH’ programme to promote business compliance and foster a trade ecosystem built on integrity and transparency.

KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin officiated at the drive in the Stutong Community Market here.

According to him, the initiative acts as an umbrella for several key KPDN efforts aimed at building a structured and ethical business environment that protects consumers.

“Through this implementation, KPDN emphasises a self-regulation approach among traders, ensuring compliance with trade laws comprehensively and continuously.

“For its first year, Pasar PATUH is being run as a pilot project,” he said.

The programme encourages public market traders to practise clear price-labelling, use accurate weighing instruments, and maintain clean and orderly stalls.

It will start with one public market in each state, before being gradually expanded nationwide.

“This programme aims to raise traders’ awareness on the importance of law compliance, promote healthy competition, and safeguard consumers’ rights.

“The programme also demonstrates strategic cooperation between government agencies, industry, and consumers, ensuring maximum impact,” added Matthew.

Among the key strategic partners are Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Kuching South Hawkers and Traders Association, Metrology Corporation Sdn Bhd and De Metrology Sdn Bhd.

“This cooperation not only improves enforcement effectiveness but also strengthens integrity and governance in domestic trade.

“It also serves as a platform for consumer education, encouraging active community involvement in promoting transparency and ethical business practices,” said Matthew.
