“The Pre-Gawai celebration is not only a festive occasion filled with food, music and entertainment, but also an important platform to strengthen friendship, mutual respect and unity among people of different races and religions,” he said, according to a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today.

The event was organised by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) together with residents of Kampung Sungai Laru.

Additionally, he expressed appreciation to the organisers, community leaders, volunteers, sponsors and residents for making the event a success.

He said Sarawak’s multicultural harmony remains one of its greatest strengths and must be preserved for future generations.

Wee also highlighted mothers as the backbone of families and communities, citing their sacrifices, care and guidance.

The programme also saw the presentation of incentive awards to outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students from the village, whom Wee congratulated while encouraging them to continue pursuing their education for a brighter future.

Meanwhile, Wee said strong community participation showed the importance of unity in building a safer and more harmonious living environment, and that MBKS will continue working with the community on infrastructure upgrades, cleanliness programmes and improvements to public facilities.

He stressed community development must go beyond physical progress, focusing on strengthening social ties and improving well-being through programmes for youths, women, senior citizens and children. — DayakDaily
