KUCHING (Dec 26): A man was fined RM3,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here after pleading guilty to threatening to kill a supermarket employee with a sickle at Jalan Stutong Baru.
Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali imposed the fine on 43-year-old Wan Mazali Wan Alik and ordered him to serve 10 months’ imprisonment in default.
Wan Mazali was charged with criminal intimidation for allegedly threatening to cause the death of an 18-year-old male employee with a sickle on Dec 8 at around 9.30am at a supermarket along Jalan Stutong Baru.
The offence falls under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
According to case facts, the victim was opening the supermarket when the accused waved at him.
The victim ignored him while attending to opening duties and arranging metal poles. The accused then approached and called out to him.
Later, the accused returned, slammed a sickle onto the counter, and pointed it at the victim, demanding to know what the victim had said to him.
The victim explained that he had not said anything, after which the accused left the scene.
Fearing for his safety, the victim lodged a police report. Investigations led to the arrest of Wan Mazali on Dec 22.
The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Aiman Mutallib Mohamad Shariff, while the accused appeared unrepresented in court.
