KUCHING (Jan 10): A man here had lost RM728,800 after falling victim to a non-existent investment scam last month.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the 54-year-old victim came across a stock investment advertisement on Facebook on Dec 28.
After clicking the link, he was connected via WhatsApp to a suspect claiming to be “Vivian Chow”, who said she was a trade assistant for the Accumulation and Growth Investment Alliance.
“He was then ordered to download the Bospro application to channel investment funds that promised lucrative returns,” Alexson said in a statement.
He then made 10 transactions to six different accounts in stages.
The victim realised he had been scammed when he was unable to withdraw the profits displayed in the investment application.
Alexson said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
