KUCHING (Sept 19): Police have arrested three foreign men in connection with an alleged break-in of a car behind a supermarket in Mile 6 earlier this month.

In a statement, Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said they received a report of the incident on Sept 3 at around 12.30 pm.

The theft resulted in losses amounting to RM30,000, he added.

“Acting from information received, at 8.30pm on the same day, the police arrested three foreign men aged between 40 to 52 at a budget hotel in Green Hill here,” he said.

Among the items seized from the suspects were RM4,500 in cash, 21 pieces of Brunei banknotes from Brunei, three foreign passports, a motorcycle, a car, seven mobile phones, and two motorcycle helmets, he added.

Mohd Farhan explained that the suspects’ modus operandi involved tailing the victim from the bank to their parked car, breaking into the vehicle through the window and stealing the cash.

All suspects have been remanded to assist in investigations into this case and several others, he said.

“So far, three similar cases involving vehicle break-ins have been solved, with total losses amounting to RM88,600,” he said.

On that note, Mohd Farhan advised the public to not leave their valuables inside their vehicles without supervision.
