KUCHING (Sept 8): A greater community movement for promoting early health screening is essential as Sarawak heads towards a developed state by 2030, said Kuching South mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.
He said members of the public now have many options to undergo health screening at a minimum fee and that the latest trend indicated people nowadays are enjoying a much longer lifespan.
“By 2028, Sarawak will be the first state to reach an ageing city status, and we are actually two years ahead of other states in the country. As a result, we need to be prepared,” he said.
Wee said this during a health screening and seminar held at Kenyalang Park community hall here yesterday, representing Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Adding on, he expressed hope that the public would invest in undergoing health screening to detect diseases at the early stages in order to age gracefully.
“Going for health screening should be considered as part of our livelihood to keep us moving,” he said.
The programme was held in collaboration with the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN), and organised by Kelab Rekreasi Wanita Bersatu Kuching and Kenyalang Park Community Association.
