BINTULU, Oct 29: The Labang-Tubau water supply project is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2026 and will benefit 62 houses and villages along the Labang to Tubau road, covering approximately 3,310 residents.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the estimated RM130.6 million project is divided into two main packages under the Sarawak Water Supply Grid System.

The first package involves the installation of pipes along 98 kilometres to increase water pressure from Labang to Tubau while the second package includes the construction of a Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 10 million litres per day, two high-level tanks with a capacity of 3.5 million litres each, a water reservoir with a capacity of 3 million litres, a backwash water system, and mechanical and electrical infrastructure.

“The project will ensure that the area receives a more consistent supply of clean water and maximises water supply capacity,” he was quoted saying during a visit to the project site yesterday (Oct 28).

He also emphasised the importance of the project in meeting the basic needs of rural residents in line with sustainable development initiatives in Sarawak.

Also present were the MUT permanent secretary Datu Jafri Lias and Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) director Awg Mohammad Fadillah Awg Redzuan. — DayakDaily
