Lau stresses that mocking women for their marital or maternal status is an insult to all women, especially hardworking mothers, wives, and daughters.
SIBU (Nov 28): Lanang MP Alice Lau has strongly condemned the actions of an individual, believed to be a secondary school teacher, for using derogatory drawings to insult married or pregnant women, particularly those in politics, by suggesting they are unfit for work.
Lau labelled the act as “prejudiced, discriminatory, and entirely unacceptable”.
She stressed that mocking women for their marital or maternal status is an insult to all women, especially hardworking mothers, wives, and daughters.
“Anyone who creates such drawings is not worthy of being an educator,” she said in a statement.
She further emphasised that marital or pregnancy status is never a measure of a person’s ability in any field.
“Around the world, countless women leaders – including politicians, entrepreneurs, scientists, and professionals – are also mothers and wives who excel both at home and at work,” Lau said.
“In Malaysia, many women work tirelessly every day to contribute to society and the nation.”
She described it as ‘shocking’ that an educator would display such biased behaviour, which violates teaching ethics and risks misleading students with harmful values.
“In a diverse and progressive society, degrading stereotypes against women must never be tolerated,” Lau said.
She underscored that a woman’s worth is defined by her “intelligence, effort, professionalism, and resilience — not her marital or maternal status”.
Lau pointed to Malaysia’s countless capable women who have long proven that marriage is not a barrier, pregnancy is not a weakness, and gender is not a limitation.
She called on the public to reject all forms of gender discrimination and uphold fairness and dignity for women in every field.
“More women are encouraged to step forward and contribute to leadership, policymaking and nation-building,” she emphasised.
